Trump is a VERY formidable, nebulous political opponent and will not be easy to beat in 2020. None of the traditional rules apply to him. And almost none of the traditional rules for who the Democrats choose to defeat him apply. // A THREAD on how to select his 2020 opponent
1. Trump's social media following (over 100 million people combined) and his ability to use his social media presence to completely dominate the news cycle changes EVERYTHING. It's how he beat 16 Republicans & the most inevitable Democrat in modern history.
2. In the 2020 presidential combine, Trump is going to be Trump. The sure fire way to lose will be to pick an opponent that simply does not match up well against him. Presidential campaigns are ALL about match-ups.
3. What follows are the five criteria I believe a successful opponent of Donald Trump must have. In future presidential elections after 2020, I think these will change to resemble something more familiar, but they will absolutely be needed to defeat him.
TRAIT #1: The candidate who defeats Donald Trump must already be wildly popular. They must already be able to fill stadiums full of people on their own without Beyonce or Bruce opening up. These rallies are essential. A very short list of people can do this right now.
TRAIT #2: The candidate who defeats Donald Trump must be able able to win the electoral college. This means they must deeply resonate not just in New York & California, but in 25-35 other states in midwest and south. This is much more difficult than it appears.
TRAIT #3: The candidate who defeats Donald Trump must electrify young people. Hillary Clinton was the first Democratic nominee in decades who was not also the #1 choice of young people. Bernie won all people under 30 across every Demographic. But Hillary got the nomination.
TRAIT #4: The candidate who defeats Donald Trump must present a clear, stark contrast to Donald Trump himself. They must have integrity, principles, values, must stand for actual policies, etc. A candidate who muddies the water with Trump will be very problematic.
TRAIT #5: The candidate who defeats Donald Trump must have a proven record of fundraising. This will be the most expensive, consequential presidential campaign in modern American history. The candidate cannot rely on the Democratic Party itself to get this right for them.
I'll close there. I have dozens of other things I look for in a presidential candidate that all deal with policy. But the 5 traits I just shared are what I strongly believe we need in a candidate to defeat Trump. VERY FEW people, sadly, fit that bill. 3 to 4 people.

With the help of Russia. He did not win on his own. And he lost the popular vote. The whole election was compromised. That’s the real issue.

I would argue that many of those millions are bots, or non voters/out of this country. However yes, huge social media following
I go down his twitter page and respond to everyone single one of his tweets almost every day. I call him fake president, and tell him to step down in almost every one. They are all recorded. The more Americans go on record against him the better.
Keep in mind many of that 100 million are bots. The US is roughly 350 million people. A third of all Americans are NOT following him.
