I know the 2020 presidential campaigns are basically already underway, but I think candidates who intend to oppose Trump should begin to announce their candidacies sooner than we've ever done before.
Democrats. All of the rules have changed. We have no rules. I seriously think leading Democrats should announce their presidential candidacies publicly and even consider announcing their VP choices straight out of the box. Form your team. And let's beat this man.
I'm not sure that's a prudent move before November. I think that, after the election, we'll have a better understanding of the overall electoral landscape and a clearer understanding of the contours of the nation's concerns heading into 2020. Anything before that is a distraction

The worst thing that the Democrats can do right now is be reactive or hasty. Fact is, there are a lot of moving parts here and, should the Republicans take a beating on November, it would be wise to let them start their civil war first.
