How are these people becoming police officers? This is so sad.

I agree. It's systemic and, in some cases (like here in Chicago) it's generational thinking. Fortunately there ARE some really good, brave ppl in uniform. Just have to weed out these obv untrained, racist, ego-driven asshats. <--I toned that way down

-
The "good" ones are complicit with their silence.
-
Oh Michael, I agree. I'm not saying silence is anything other than complicity. If WE know someone's committed a crime & WE stay silent, WE'RE accessories. Why the dbl standard? Again, systemic...answer, not reason. Ideology is a slow dancer but, as I said, I think it can change

Notice how after he's assaulted he CONTINUES TO COMPLY Because he knows if he doesn't, he could end up dead with no justice like so many others Horrific.
-
But he's not complying. He seems to have trouble following directions before & after, or doesn't want to. After I can get. But why before didn't he just do what they said? I don't know why it's a safety risk to have his hands on his legs, but they seem to think it is.
-
Go rewatch the video and listen to how he's given two different instructions by those police officers. What exactly are you trying to defend right now? If you are getting spooked by an unarmed civilian not crossing his legs properly you SHOULD NOT be a police officer.
-
Okay, this is a theme. I ask, what's up. And people answer you shouldn't be a cop. That's utterly silly. I'm not a cop, I've never been arrested. Hence my questions. You don't know that he's unarmed, no indication he's been frisked yet. We know he seems mild & trying.
-
I hear 1 instruction. Put your legs straight out. THEN it's cross at the ankles. I.e. now that they are out, cross them at the ankles. It seems humiliating and unnecessary to stick them straight out, but he is pretty reluctant to. First chance he gets he interprets not to again
-
Cop 1 tells him to put his legs “straight out” then cop 2 shouts “cross them” which he does, and he is instantly tased. It’s not hard.
-
Nope, he is asked loudly “put legs out straight” then the most that changed was put out straight and cross them, he made no motion to do either, it felt like he didnt even speak english watching him lol. I feel bad tho he wasnt even in threatening position
o well. -
He literally crossed his feet just before they got him.

Yes, but in a country where every person is potentially armed, police will be on a hair trigger - you need to lower the threat level before you can realistically expect this to change
-
Yes, someone whose hands are 100% visible and complying to your orders should lower their threat level. This isn't GTA.
-
I'm not justifying this officer's actions, I am merely pointing out that all US police are operating in a high threat environment and you cant realistically expect to change their responses until you change the environment
-
It's almost as if they have caused that high threat enviroment... Regardless of 'threat level', this altercation should not have happened. Period.pic.twitter.com/sHvHxWP4E1

So you are saying that the reason America has a gun problem is because the Police are armed? Australian police are all armed, but we don't have a gun problem.
