It’s relevant in that recent US border policy seems to copy Australia’s, right down to the camps: deliberate, highly-publicised, systematic cruelty used as both deterrent and a play for racist votes. Hope you have better luck fighting it there than we have here.

While were talking about education, the first recipient of the label 'illegal' immigrant were the Chinese when Congress passed the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882. The rest of Asia followed in the Immigration Act of 1917, aka, Asiatic Barred Zone Act.
