The first step of the trans-Atlantic slave trade was to dehumanize Africans. The first step to almost complete genocide of Native Americans was to dehumanize them. Colonizers and oppressors first dehumanize then they victimize. It eases their conscience.
Trump has spent years now dehumanizing border-crosses as animals, rapists, and murderers. He doubled down on it earlier today. That step is an essential one. That dehumanization precedes genocide. It's what makes it palatable & acceptable to millions - as polls now show.

Agree, but that’s how he has always governed. Point to a brown enemy (Muslims,People of the African diaspora, Latinos), dehumanize them (shithole counties,rapists,terrorists),put forward a policy that harms said people and USA looks other way.

That was my exact thought, they view these parents and children as animals, therefore they will treat them as such. This is the only way to justify this savage and barbaric treatment of other human beings.
