Let me be very clear on something. Several brand new polls prove this... Tens of millions of Americans have no problem w/ what's going on at our border. Polls show 46% of Republicans, 25% of Independents, & 15% of Democrats are just fine with parents being separated from kids.

Not one of those percentages is over 50% and in aggregate they are way less than "most Americans" - please rephrase. It's a horrifying number of people who support this atrocity but it's not "most"

Thank you.

I didn’t want to be negative but I agree with you. I felt the same way about gun control. When those babies were killed at Sandy Hook and this nation did nothing I knew nothing substantial would ever be done.
-
Trump can do it because he knows ultimately many Americans think just like them and not enough people that disagree with him will do anything. Kids are in cages and most people in this nation got up this morning, had a coffee, and it’s just another day.

Those numbers are sickening, yes. But none of them are 'most' Americans. 50%+1 is most. C'mon, man. The truth is a strong enough point.

The stats you just provided indicate the significant majority of Americans are not fine with these seperations. So why then do you summarily refute those numbers one tweet later? Don't abandon having standards for twitter dot com internet points.

None of the numbers you mention in the tweet before this is greater or equal to 50% so I’d like a source for this “most americans are fine with it” claim

I hear you, but none of the percentages are 50% or higher, so it’s not “most.” But your point is well-taken. Trump is catering to an audience that eats this up. I unfortunately do know some of these ppl IRL who justify this evil.

those three groups presumably represent the entirety of America. So if each one is a minority (46, 25, and 15 are each less than 50), they cannot add up to "most." In fact, math would suggest that that the overwhelming majority are something other than "fine" with it.
-
Presuming Reps are 40% of population, Dems are 40%, and Indies are 20%, then around 30% of the total population is "fine" with it, based on these numbers. That's too many, but it's not by any stretch "most." It's a sizable minority, but it's less than a third.

That's not how math does. These are percentages of percentages. Using the most recent Gallup party ID results, 46% of Rs (11.96 total adult pop), 25% of Independents (10.75 tot) and 15% of Ds (4.35 tot) add up to 27.06% of the voting age population supporting. Not most.

This shit has nothing to do with political affiliation. It’s about human decency.

The majority is not always right though. I'm sure the majority of Americans supported the Japanese internment during WW2 also, but, it does not mean that it was right. I believe we are on the right side of history here.

True. Listened to CSPAN this AM and it's shocking. "Why should these kids illegally crossing border get free healthcare and trips to Disneyland (in a cage??) when I can't pay for my healthcare"-- lies promoted by Fox that divide us along racial/class lines.
