I think Trump is beatable, but I also think he is VERY formidable. He’s an immensely difficult opponent. He will be an even tougher opponent in 2020. I genuinely think only a few people can beat him. It’s a 50 State election. He won 30 states vs Clinton.

Here the 5 factors I think it will take to defeat Donald Trump in 2020. Traditional rules of presidential politics simply don’t apply against Trump. A thread...
Show this thread -
1. Trump’s opponent must not share any of his key weaknesses on honesty, character, sexual assault/harassment. They must be the anti-Trump. Barack Obama is the anti-Trump in this sense. Any candidates that have Trump’s weaknesses, and nullify them, shouldn’t run.

2. Trump’s opponent must already be able to pack stadiums (without Beyoncé or Bruce opening up) across the country. Now. They must already have a devoted, energized base. Bernie has this. Oprah & Michelle have it. Most others don’t.

Bernie is your Achilles heal — like you are totally in sync with reality and then you have this obsession with this egomaniacal white man - it’s weird
-
Would you mind explaining this to me? I really don’t understand all the hate for Bernie, but I’d love to listen
-
Every explanation I’ve gotten when I’ve asked comes down to someone’s feelings—not facts, not records, not objectivity. Feelings. They want to blame him for Clinton’s loss, and they blame Bernie for not having control of his millions of fans. It’s disheartening
-
Actually no - but thanks for answering for me. I find the white masculine frame of his version of a kind of socialist progress politics to be completely out of sync with our political reality - and he embodies a righteous singularity of conviction that is patriarchal

You do so much good work on so many issues. It's a shame to watch you repeatedly drive your political credibility off a cliff with this fact-free idol worship.

As many of us practically begged our fellow citizens to realize the danger that was looming if we didn't align to defeat Trump, this was you...pic.twitter.com/JgO4HunMJp

many of us practically begged our fellow citizens to support the candidate that was not under FBI investigation and was doing far better in the polling against trump but we can’t all get what we want can we
-
Huh? You mean BS? DOJ began investigating him & Jane in spring 2016. Seems they dropped the investigation into BS months later but the investigation into Jane is ongoing. Sooo ...
Whether it's politically motivated as HRC's was or not, it wld've been *huge* if he were the nom. -
Also suggest drawing the line at "under FBI investigation," even when the investigation is bogus, could come back to haunt in 2020. Hopefully Dems will take both House/Senate in 2018 & avoid GOP opening investigations into Sanders but bet on DT's DOJ, FEC, +/or IRS to do so.
-
According to you, the Bernie Sanders investigation would have been "huge" if he were the nom-and yet you downplay HRC being under investigation as nothing even though she broke the law. General Petraeus was convicted for less, HRC just got off because of her status & privilege
-
Indeed the investigation into Sanders was bogus, just as was the investigation into Clinton for Bengazi. Yet Clinton was under a legitimate investigation during the primary and still the Democratic establishment insisted on backing her
-
And by the way it's kind of odd that you just conveniently skip over the part that Bernie Sanders was polling significantly better against the Republicans than HRC. We need to have fair elections that put forth the candidate that is most likely to win
