    In Matthew 18:6, Jesus says it would be better for you to tie a heavy rock around your neck and jump in the sea, than it is to bring any type of harm to children. Using the Bible to justify child abuse, though, is an ancient practice - particularly of white men in power.

        Sessions quotes Romans 13 to argue that following the laws of the land is commanded by the Bible (and supersedes other teachings). This was the same argument the apartheid regime in South Africa used to justify their government’s systemic segregation and oppression. 1/
