I won't be posing for photos with Donald Trump, but every single day families with incarcerated loved ones are asking for my help and they deserve our advocacy today. Many of them have been completely ignored by Democrats and were sometimes even railroaded by Democratic DA's.

If Donald Trump wants an exhaustive list of who needs to be pardoned or have their sentence commuted so they can be released, of course we will give it to him. Over the past few days families have begged many of us to have their story told so their loved ones can be released.

A family asked me today if I would ever be willing to meet with Donald Trump to ask him to pardon their loved one. I would have to smoke 10 joints and drink a pint of holy water before doing such a thing, and still would struggle, but people need to have their story told.

Willingham was executed in 2004. science commission met FIVE years after the fact. The commission was working on a acknowledgement that Texas executed an innocent, Perry pulled a bureaucratic move to disband the commission. #1 arson guy in US told Perry man was innocent 2/2

I don't know of anyone saying we shouldn't talk to any Republican legislator about sentencing and prison reform. Let's get the narrative correct as I know they are plenty advocates including the Innocent Project who are happy to speak to anyone who will not only listen but act.

Trump has a direct interest in pardons given his dire predicament with the law. He is simply suddenly interested because he wants to exploit it.

Reformation of a system or culture is very different form individual pardons

Beautifully put. The more we recognize when something has been done that needed to, perhaps more pols on both sides will step up and do those things.

Let's also bear one thing in mind. For this President, pardons are easy. Far more difficult is instituting changes to the system that have resulted in everyday activities by black and brown people being criminalized in the first place. Does he have the spine to do that?

Concur, I hate Trump, would probably spit on him given the chance, but even I could be polite & lucid if it meant getting something positive done.

It’s not 2 systems... it’s 1 system. How can we be fooled?

Surely you know Republicans like former Governor of Texas Rick Perry would rather execute an innocent man, than have their base think they are soft on crime. I have no doubt Cameron Willingham was wrongfully executed. A team of scientists convened and was stopped by Perry. 1/2

Probably the smartest thing you've ever tweeted Shaun; if you applied the same Understanding to race issues you would find Wisdom in it's right place

Can a pardon be withdrawn? That's the only danger I see, is the threat implicit in it....
