This notion that we must refuse to talk with Republicans about pardons or commutations or criminal reform is foolhardy. Both parties built the system. We must engage both. And the millions of people affected by injustice in America can't wait in election cycles for reform.

Beautifully put. The more we recognize when something has been done that needed to, perhaps more pols on both sides will step up and do those things.
Let's also bear one thing in mind. For this President, pardons are easy. Far more difficult is instituting changes to the system that have resulted in everyday activities by black and brown people being criminalized in the first place. Does he have the spine to do that?
