For the past 6 months the @RealJusticePAC has been preparing for this day in California.
We're supporting candidates for District Attorney & Sheriff up & down the state.
Two primary groups have worked tooth & nail against us.
One didn't surprise me. The other did.
A THREAD.

5. In Sacramento, the current District Attorney is a lifelong conservative Republican. She refused to even attend the NAACP or ACLU debates & forums. She built a literal fence around her office after
#StephonClark was murdered. And is supported by almost every elected DemocratShow this thread -
6. In Sacramento, the Mayor is a Democrat, almost the entire City Council are Democrats, Hillary Clinton won the county over Donald Trump, but the locally elected Democratic leaders decided to stick with a truly horrible Republican. They don't want justice reform. That simple.

7. Alameda County has a HORRIBLE District Attorney. Nancy O'Malley literally had one of the worst scorecards on justice reform of any DA in California. Guess who is backing her? Lock, stock, and barrel. Local Democrats. Even
@KamalaHarris. Shocked the hell out of us.Show this thread

They just love the status quo. Sadly their "wants" are edging us into police state and authoritarianism territory.

You’ve been active in the party for years. It couldn’t have surprised you that much.

You refuse to accept that
@TheDemocrats sold out their constituency for corporate dollars a long time ago. They, literally, are more similar to the Republicans than not. A much quicker work around would be for the truly progressive to leave the party and register as Independents. -
Then, like two years ago we all lose. Purity has no place in politics. I don't refuse to accept that many Dems have become neoliberals in their policies, see Bill Clinton and even some of BHO's policies were neoliberal, but that can be changed without blowing up the entire thing.
-
Neither party serves me, so I wish you well. Bill Clinton set this country on the path from which we can't seem to deviate.
-
Agreed, on the last part. I am an independent, but lean much more Democratic than Republican. IF we had an actual 3rd choice, iwould consider a 3rd one, but if not then you go with the one that best represents what you support rather than not vote and let the other win.
-
The lesser of two evils is still evil. I never said not vote. I don't have enough characters to describe how both parties have neglected black and brown communities for decades, including Pres. Obama.
-
Not sure if neglected is the right term, though I would say certainly taken for granted. I do believe BHO and his administration began to bring awareness to the challenge in black communities. That was first step, now let party build on that. Rather than letting it slip back.
-
Neglected is the right term, because I said it. Nobody can tell me how I am supposed to feel. If you don’t agree, that’s your business, not mine.

Democrats are Republicans who pose in the color blue. They also resort to identity politics when it suits their interests.

Nobody wants to appear “soft on crime.” Ridiculous.

How is this surprising?

You touched on something here. The leadership is rotten, and candidates who are not under the thumb of the old guard will not get support. Start over from scratch and call it something else. Get ahead of the crumbling of the two party system and just run independents!
