The more I speak up for the human rights and dignity of Palestine, the more Jewish leaders ask me to speak out against Louis Farrakhan. I’m sorry but that’s preposterous. It’s racist for you to even ask me this. I’m not responsible for a single word that comes out of his mouth

I think it’s case by case, ppl were upset bc they thought you were defending Farrakhan when you spoke up for Mallory. At that time I just asked you to understand how scared and unwelcome progressive Jews feel in spaces where Farrakhan is embraced. That’s my central concern
-
Let me go on record here and say that I think white Jews need to stay tf out of this conversation, and please don't bring me into your excuses for why you're giving Shaun a hard time. You're not the ones most hurt by Farrakhan. Black people are.
-
I don’t think I’m giving him a hard time. I love and support Sean’s work. I honestly didn’t understand why this came up again this am. But I respect you asking me to stay out of the conversation. I am just advocating for an activist space for Palestinians where I feel safe to be
-
I just can't with white Jews saying they don't feel safe in the Palestinian Justice movement. Really. Do you know how demands for safety look when you're talking to Black people?
-
I’m saying that I want to be there and do the work. And when I experience anti-Semitism it makes me feel unsafe. Criticizing Israel is NOT anti-Semitic, but there is real anti-Semitism on the left. That’s what I’m referring to, and what I want to engage honestly abt
-
Well, I want to safe space on planet earth, so maybe you can go tweet every single white person now and ask them to denounce white supremacy? That should give you a little time to think about the problematic power dynamics of your role in this conversation.
-
I do!! Countering white supremacy and patriarchy is central to my existence and work. And again, I thank you for explaining why you think I should stay out of it. I think twitter fails us badly in conversations like these too, bc I have agreed w literally all of your tweets

American Jews are not obligated to denounce the murders in Gaza (though many do). Not all US Jews identify with Israel. Many US Jews do not support Israel or much of Israel's actions.

No no no! I’m not asking you to regularly denounce him. And again I personally think it’s my duty as a Jew to criticize Israel, but I can’t force my American Jewish to do that just bc they’re Jews. I’m just saying there demanding this in either case is problematic

Shaun, you can’t be as dense as the person you’re playing here. You are a thoughtful and intelligent person on so many matters. The fact that you‘re continually gaslighting Jews by pretending that you never defended Farrakhan when you know you have is just incomprehensible

I’m not being very articulate, but in no way do I think you have to denounce Farrakhan bc you are a black man-in no way. As with everything, it’s contextual, and this morning I didn’t quite understand why this all came up again. My deepest concern is building an activist base 1/

In which we all embrace in our fight for social justice. In that space I will keep fighting for Palestinian safety & liberation, and I want to do that loudly & openly as a Jew. With the Tamika issue it was abt whether or not the Women’s March was a safe space for progressive Jews
