Then the problem is mandatory sentences. Cases should be at the discretion of the judge as every case is different. Perhaps at such a young age, rehabilitation is the answer.

If you look at the data, mandatory sentencing has done real damage to communities. And it’s only been around since the Clinton era. Even the people who originally implemented it have admitted it was a mistake.

Explain to us again why this sentence, for stealing shoes with a gun where no one suffered bodily injuries or death, was anywhere near justified... By all means, yes, he was wrong and should serve time, but the sentence shows how unfair our judicial system has been and still is.

Wake up ! This goes on day in/day out. A damned shame nobody pays attention until something like this hits social media. The so-called Juvenile Justice System needs scrutiny; MANY of their injustices that are simply routine business. Maybe we need to get rid of Juvenile Courts.
