Something genuinely strange has happened. Woke up today to emails and tweets saying I am anti-Semitic. Which is weird, because I've been publicly & privately fighting against this bigotry for years. Here's the argument...

I have never met Louis Farrakhan. I am not responsible for anything he says or does. I am also not responsible for other people who may respect or admire him. If that issue is critical for you, and that's your business, you will have to take that up with them.

If standing up for the basic human rights of Palestinians makes me Anti-Semitic, I translate that to mean that you believe a fundamental aspect of being Jewish is the degradation of Palestinians.

Supporting Farrakhan and his supporters makes you a supporter of anti Semites. Failing to acknowledge Israel’s need to defend itself from swastika carrying, self proclaimed martyrs as well as blocking Jewish people who challenge your viewpoint is not a good look.

I Also support the human rights of Palestinians. It's a horrendous slaughter of unarmed human beings protesting their inhumane living conditions.I no longer admire Israel; this cowardly murder is against my principles.I'm certainly not semantic.Should never blindly follow anyone.

It's simple. If you glorify Farrakhan despite his rabid anti-Semitism, you're in no position to talk about the occupation because what drives you is not the rights of Palestinians but rather a hatred of Jews and a denial of our right to self-determination.

Unfortunately the definition of Semitic has changed and is used to defend people's actions. As a Palestian, I consider myself Semitic, which I'm sure many people will take issue to. Especially to the ones who want to change it for their purposes.
