Something genuinely strange has happened. Woke up today to emails and tweets saying I am anti-Semitic. Which is weird, because I've been publicly & privately fighting against this bigotry for years. Here's the argument...

I fundamentally reject the notion that fighting for the human rights and dignity of Palestinians makes anyone anti-Semitic. If you believe that, it's no different than people thinking those who hate police brutality hate white people.

Someone said, "Shaun - you can't tell us what is or is not anti-Semitic." OK. Defining your oppression for yourself is your privilege. But if me not rejecting a person who did not reject a person who you say is anti-Semitic makes me anti-Semitic, then we do have a problem.

Again - I will keep fighting against all bigotry of all kinds. I don't do it for the love or any accolades - Lord knows it puts me and my whole family in danger every day - I do it because it's the right thing to do and it must be done. //End of Thread

If standing up for the basic human rights of Palestinians makes me Anti-Semitic, I translate that to mean that you believe a fundamental aspect of being Jewish is the degradation of Palestinians.

Who cares if you’ve never met The Hon. Minister Louis Farrakhan. That has nothing to do with this weak thread. Why do you so-called activists start flip-flopping and fence-riding when it comes to Farrakhan? You’re only proving what he says about so-called Jews is right & exact.
-
Sorry that you saw all that I have said and just see weakness. I'm not flip flopping. I'm openly saying that I am never responsible for whatever Minister Farrakhan says or doesn't say - whether someone deems it anti-Semitic or not. This is true.

You clearly misspoke in an earlier post by falsely calling Minister
#Farrakhan "anti-Semitic," which neither you nor your 'friends' can prove! Show us where the Minister lied on or harmed Jews! Otherwise stand down with those false, baseless opinions! Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

This is sad that you denounce the Minister. He is not Anti Semitic and if you’ve listened to him then you would know that. He does what you do only better and always with facts. Minister Farrakhan has the answers to our people’s problems if we listened.

@ShaunKing why did you lie to the public and say@LouisFarrakhan was anti-Semitic? Here he is pictured with REAL Jews and not so-called “Jews”, whom are responsible for your post against Farrakhan. You had a decision to stand with truth or falsehood, and you chose falsehood.pic.twitter.com/yZwZqg2cI1

As a Jew and ardent supporter of Palestinian, anti-racism and you I think you're far to quick to judge these criticisms and dismiss them based on their tone and the content of the loudest speakers based on past accusations of antisemitism as a result of your coverage of Palestine
-
I think there's room for nuance and understanding that support of someone who supports a problematic person is problematic and that were the roles reversed you would be calling these responses a deflection from a tacit support of a racist. One degree of separation is not a lot.
-
That being said, I think you made it clear where you stand on Farrakhan's antisemitic views and I do not think you are an antisemite. But support of antisemitism, like support for racism, should not be tolerated and should be called out.

I love Farrakhan and have heard him speak live on numerous occasions.
