Let's see - who's on the @fsf board of directors? Could we count on them to do the right thing?
Ok, first name on the list is Gerald J. Sussman....oh.https://twitter.com/H0tdish/status/1166445162681249792?s=20 …

Second, there are absolutely ways to investigate things like this. Both things that are "just tweets" and the several non-tweet examples given in this thread. It seems, though, that you're looking for an excuse to say "sorry there's nothing we can do".
-
Third, at this point if you *are* going to investigate I strongly recommend asking an independent person or org to do so. You've seemed very defensive in these threads and I don't think you have the impartiality or experience to lead on this.
-
Fourth, you don't need an investigation or legal standards of proof to remove RMS. You could decide on a whim. (Ethically, I understand you wanting good reasons and evidence, but again, your insistence on legal proof seems like an excuse to say "sorry there's nothing we can do".)
-
Fifth, the board is collectively responsible for addressing this situation. Not RMS, not the US justice system, you. The FSF has an appointed board with no democratic accountability to membership like, say, OSI has.
-
You have chosen a governance structure which concentrates power in your own hands. You wanted the power, you got the responsibility. The community can't *make* you respond. All we can do is make noise and/or leave.
-
Sixth, I'm currently making noise, but I'm willing to leave. It won't just be me though. I've spoken at five LibrePlanets, I have friends on FSF staff and on its board. If I feel I need to cut ties, I will be asking every person I know to cut ties too.
-
I don't *want* to do this. I'd much rather see the FSF board announce you've asked an external org or person to facilitate an investigation. But if your response is to stonewall and ignore and hope this goes away then I can't in good conscience continue supporting the FSF.
