Happy Indigenous Peoples' Day! Today we celebrate the contributions that Native peoples have made to the country's history, while recognizing the persecution and discrimination that our peoples have faced for centuries in our ancestral homelands.
It's the honor of a lifetime to be one of the first Native American women in Congress, and it's a responsibility I do not take lightly.
Because while @Deb4CongressNM and I might be the first, we certainly won't be the last. We'll keep pushing for progress every step of the way.

We can thank indigenous communities for cultivating tomatoes, corn, squash, Cocoa/chocolate. These crops would not exist without cultivating over thousands of years.
And potatoes! Chili peppers! All those things come from South and Central American Indigenous ppl. We thank them for the may blessings they have given us.
Persecution? They were Christians?
