That's a big problem in academia. We are trained only in a very specific field while we have to be exposed to far wider areas of science, technology, etc.

Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence is as much about great infrastructure/systems, as it is about algorithms... Only when you marry the two well, can you expect magic to happen

For MOOCs, only 5-10% of learners are self-motivated enough to do everything on their own and 60% need some community in learning-- estimates from author of "A Mind for Numbers" & creator of "Learning How to Learn" MOOC (taken by 2 million ppl)

My own sense from interacting with hundreds of thousands of students around the world is that perhaps only 5 to 10 percent of learners are highly self-motivated. These are also the ones who tend to gut it out and do every quiz, project, and other assignment required for formal completion of a MOOC. They also learn on their own quite nicely, thank you very much. However, perhaps another 60 percent of students learn we
Online discussion forums that are built into most online courses make social connections easy. Social media—such as LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and Snapchat—are also used by many MOOCers. Still other MOOCers, as well as libraries, make their own in-person MOOC clubs, kind of like book clubs. Spouses take MOOCs together, and parents enjoy taking MOOCs with their kids.
