Legal drinking age was briefly lowered to 18 for a while, then nudged up to 19. Then they gave up and set it back at 21. IIRC the DUI numbers went higher and right then MADD came onto the scene and stopped the party.
This is tough because most guns are carefully designed and explicitly marketed to fulfill frustrated little boy fantasies.
We don't even let them smoke tobacco or cannabis under age 21. To be clear, I do not disagree with any of these prohibitions -- alcohol, tobacco, cannabis -- just would like to see guns added to the list.
