If @JamesAGagliano had bothered asking, I would have told him my problem is the lax laws that armed the shooter. And the implication that the hero is an average civilian; he’s a highly trained former LEO.
And, yes, I’m alarmed by public places full of armed civilians with only a few hours of online training and possibly no live-fire training at all. Or who live in one of the 17 “permitless carry” states that don’t require a gun permit or training to carry a hidden, loaded handgun.
In other words, if our gun laws were stronger, dangerous people with long criminal histories wouldn’t have easy access to guns. But arming bad guys so they can sell guns to the good guys is how the @NRA became the wealthiest most powerful special interest that ever existed.
The idea of only good guys with guns stopping bad guys with guns is a myth - proven by the fact that of all the armed people in the White Settlement church, only the man who is a former officer, firearms instructor and gun range owner shot the gunman. AFTER TWO WERE KILLED.

maybe that's because we can tell the difference between a game and real life. surgeon simulator makes me no less a doctor and flight sim makes no less a pilot, so why does a violent video game make me a violent person?
