Do any single one of these folks wanting to arm teachers want to discuss who is more likely to get shot at school? Black and brown boys & girls. Who exactly is supposed to feel safe with armed teachers? Not me and I’ve already lost one.

Do any one of these geniuses wanting to arm teachers want to actually look at the science of learning and fear? Because a scared brain is less likely to absorb new information. It won’t work. Let’s just say it loudly- it’s a stupid idea that benefits the gun lobby.

As a teacher, I DO NOT want to be armed, and I REALLY DO NOT want to work with teachers who are armed. Believe me when say, this situation would be CAREER-ENDING for me. I also would pull my kids out of their schools if *any* of their teachers were armed.

This is how I feel (teacher too, hi
). -
This is how I feel as well! (Also a teacher!) I asked about this in my last interview before I accepted the job. If there was any chance of anyone being armed, I would not have accepted.

The type of teacher that would volunteer for that is likely the type of teacher you wouldn’t want with a gun in the first place.
-
EXACTLY!!! The only teacher in my school who wants to be armed I wouldn't trust with a paper cutter!
-
Very true! I have enough trouble keeping track of pencils, pens and dry erase markers that always seem to disappear....you want teachers to keep track of guns?

I am a teacher. I would quit my job if they armed us. We are not qualified as police. If so, we would have become police. Period.

Does every parent have to sign a waiver that if their child is shot and/or killed they won't hold the school district, principal, and/or teacher liable and responsible??? Seriously???
-
Yes, excellent point and never mentioned

It’s insanity. I’ve worked with teachers for 25 years. The ones who want the guns are exactly the ones we don’t want to have them.
-
My thinking exactly! Those of us who worked in the schools know it’s far from safe. My first reaction when I heard this suggested was to laugh uncontrollably—-then I realized some people were serious. This will not end well.

This is also not a movie. The bad guys don't wear stormtrooper outfits and the good guys don't wear shirts labeled "I'M A GOOD GUY! DON'T SHOOT ME ARRIVING POLICE!" And don't even get me started about the likely outcome of a good BLACK teacher holding a gun....

People who would volunteer to carry weapons in a school should NOT be trusted to carry weapons in a school.

I’ve been in public education for 37 years. Believe me, the teachers that would want to be able to carry a gun are the ones you really don’t want to have them.

Plus—are the teachers supposed to provide their own guns? And use handguns v assault rifles? We already ask way too much of teachers...
-
Thank you!
