just another woman in gaming here to remind you that gaming scenes are in general not kind to women i can’t even remember the amount of times men tried to push me out of smash when i was new if you really think it’s just a few bad people.... it’s a bad system.
i honestly don’t have a lot of helpful and constructive things to say on this i’m just feeling very.... scared? if i can be honest. and disgusted. and sad. try to call out shitty behavior if you see it and you’re in a position of power. that’s really everything i got atm

i kinda see it like. it isn’t JUST people being dicks to women because they’re dicks. they ARE but the culture permits (if not enables sometimes) that this is normal. things like “it’s just twitch chat.” “it’s just a hell group.” “he’s just a loser incel who cares what he says”
Most of the time I just get comments like “go back to the kitchen” and actually mean it vs a meme. Sometimes it turns out to be that I am no worth even existing in the gaming community because I’m viewed as a Thot/boosted/not skilled before any even match begins. Disgusting

I luckily never had issues in Smash myself (probably because I'm loud and vocal and Europe is more chill in general), but when I switched to Splatoon, I first saw what a NATURALLY perfectly mixed environment looks like and I felt way more comfortable.
