News: Metro & MultCo say thousands have failed to pay new high-income taxes to fund homeless services, universal preschool. Metro delinquency rate for 2021: ~ 25%. Neither gov't ever notified those that qualify for the taxes, who now face hefty fines.

Portland City Council today approved an ordinance to allow the Police Bureau to spend $1.5 million to purchase a new patrol plane for its Air Support Unit. The aircraft it will replace was built in 1978. Commissioner Mingus Mapps: "That's the same age as Tom Brady and email."

Deadline for this 5-member commission is tomorrow. So far, only 11 people have applied, per city officials. By contrast, 270 people applied to serve on the commission tasked to create new council district boundaries.

Several months ago, Portland more than doubled its private security contract to $4.6 million annually. Now it will spend an additional $41,000 a month for a new 3-person "executive protection team" at City Hall who assignment is shrouded in secrecy.

Things that will get you permanently banned from TriMet. 1) Repeatedly cutting, touching or masturbating into the hair of unsuspecting women riding transit. 2) Chewing off a portion of a 78-year-old's face on a MAX station platform.

Flashback May 2013: Caleb McGillvary, aka Kai The Hatchet-Wielding Hitchhiker, was supposed to crash on my couch in Brooklyn. My then-fiancée (now wife) & our housemate put the kibosh on the plan. The next night, Kai killed a man in New Jersey.

Just your periodic reminder that any promise of adding another 300 cops to the Portland Police Bureau is years away, at a minimum. Bureau still 80 officers short of current authorized staffing levels. Avg emergency response time now almost 18 minutes.
