Type-checked functional programmers are just early adopters of correctness.

Nix tip: Working with spotty internet connection? Pass the "--fallback" flag to nix-build, nix-env, nix-shell, etc. to have nix build from source when downloading fails. Working on the plane with no internet? Use: --option substituters "" to disable cache downloading altogether

No. This has been another episode of 'simple answers to stupid questions.'

SxSW Interactive is garbage. Everyone seems to know this. But no one says anything. There I said it. I don't know that it helped much, though.

this morning in "computer nightmares" i found the ultimate nightmare inside of Nixpkgs: purposefully crafting SHA-1 collisions to support Google Chrome's update mechanism, due to its non-deterministic download URLs. what the fuck

Joe Rogan's show is a chocolate chip cookie, made by taking a normal sugar cookie dough recipe and mixing in rat poop.

I swear. Make it pretty. Make it work. Make it pretty again. Maybe make it fast. Check that it's still pretty.

I feel apart from the Scala community these days since I haven't written it in a few years. I saw this talk with some critique and advice that I thought was strong, but still reasonable (only watched it halfway, though, so can only vouch for that much):

I switched from really snooty single-origin Ethiopian beans to rooibos/ginger/whatevs seem good to sip on. I've had daily coffees for over 20 years, so this feels like a life event to me. I probably won't strictly quit. But don't think I'll have it as a routine.

I normally don't drink coffee when sick. But I normally start again when I'm feeling better. Only last week I decided not to. So I think I quit coffee? I'm past the withdrawals. I think I was so deep in that I was actually getting _tired_ more because my sleep was so off.

Did I say anything weird? The mobile Twitter client started crashing on startup, so I reinstalled it. When it came back up, it was reporting that some device in Kansas was logging into my account, so I changed the password.

Why can't they make a dish washer with good integration of a clean/dirty indicator with respect to opening the door? Instead I get like every other option I could care less about. I pretty much only use one setting.

potential game-changer for nix (the language): make the repl recognize haddock style comments that you can read by calling ":info foo" or similar! would increase the discoverability a thousandfold!

Is Neovim just a better Vim at this point? I havn't used it yet. I use Emacs for multi-file programming, but Vim for single-file editing. I probably won't change that.

I think even without Simple Haskell, once we know how, we might figure things out pretty quickly. And that knowledge could apply generally. With the complexity that worries me, we may use simple tools/techniques that everyone knows. But it's still hard to go through.
