This goes to the heart of the aid sectors colonial roots and “white saviour” complex. Whose interests does the aid sector really serve?

My latest piece: Trapped in Wuhan. One young Kenyan lady I spoke to said ‘I feel like the walls are caving in around me’. A Ugandan medical student says ‘if i die here they’ll cremate me, my family won’t even get my body.’ A Zimbabwean girl says ‘mentally I’m not ok here’

8 years ago, I messaged a woman I was really worried was being abused by a man I knew. I told her if she ever needed to talk to someone about him, I would be there. She was angry at me and blocked me. She rang me last week & told me what he’s put her thru. Reach out, sisters.

Labour members seeking any elected role but especially a leadership one - have a thorough briefing on trans rights. Do it. There's no excuse not to. There's no excuse to do bland 'dialogue, both sides of the story' platitudes. It's a matter of human rights. Have a bloody position

After much deliberation, I have decided that I will not use my presence at a state ceremony to normalize Trump’s lawless conduct & subversion of the Constitution. None of this is normal, and I will not legitimize it. Consequently, I will not be attending the State of the Union.

Further context. 6% of MPs are ethnic minority women (1 in 17 MPs). Very few newsrooms or boardrooms or other orgs with cultural power could match that, partly reflected in this unfamiliarity & clumsiness

Incredibly honoured to be one of the commissioners for Domestic Abuse Commission which is being launched tonight at City Hall. I’ll be speaking about children and young people and the importance of centralising them in our work

This looks small but it goes deeper. My mum didn’t speak Arabic to my sisters and I growing up because of this, and her experiences of racism. She didn’t want us to feel different We missed out on speaking a beautiful 2nd language. It’s sad that we’ve not moved past this bigotry

The Times today picks up on the Innocence Tax - the scandal whereby the government can refuse you legal aid and, when you’re acquitted, refuse to reimburse your legal costs, leaving you thousands of pounds out of pocket. Great work by .

If the Standard is correct, this isn't the first time that Getty Images - the wire services that supplies most of the country's news outlets with editorial pictures - has fed out the wrong photos of a black Labour MP. Their errors then get magnified.

Not racism would account for a 1 off mistake. This isn't a 1 off as this thread attests. If as a journalist you don't know who the faces of the Black MPs4 ur story & u can't even b bothered2check, says a lot about ur integrity as a journo&instit racism'd b a reasonable conclusion
