Basically...we do have the same 24hrs. How we use our 24hrs today is what determines tomorrow both the rich and the poor.

That's ignoring the point of what she's saying. Born with access to money, near family, in an area with resources & services, healthy? You've got more time in the day than those who aren't from day one, because those things save your time / use other people's to your benefit.

"We all have the same 24 hours" is capitalism's toxic tool for: ~ shaming the 99% for not being the 1%; ~ erasing the support labour that makes celebrity lives possible, and the people who perform that labour; ~ shutting down questions about privilege, capital, and safety nets.

Money buys time. Your own time ~ you pay to do stuff faster. Other people's time ~ you pay them to do stuff for you. How many hours does your favourite celebrity *really* have? 24 + hours saved by expediting with money + total daily working hours of their entire team

While I agree 100% with your assessment, I am also wondering if is it not fair to consider that most of our celebrities who are millionaires now also started from the bottom, using public transport and what not but they chose to use their 24 hours differently to us?

For actors and similar, it's mostly luck--the right person saw them at the right time. But the vast majority of the wealthy had wealthy parents and good connections. And even the ones who didn't? It's mostly about luck.

This comic is a really good illustration of privilege, including the concept you're talking about here.http://thewireless.co.nz/articles/the-pencilsword-on-a-plate …

I made the mistake of attending a mompreneur event once, hoping to glean secrets for making it all work. but all the women spoke of was how much hired (or family) help they had and that’s why they were able to make their businesses work. uh, ok then

Yeah, no. I live in Toronto and don’t have a car, so I take two subways and a bus to get kiddo to camp or school. That’s 2-3hrs of travel a day. Husband used to bike her in with a trailer in under 1h but due to high death toll for TO cyclists we’re back to transit.
