    Prison labor in XJ essentially gets no attention, which is unfortunate as 100000s of innocent people are now employed in it while they serve their long prison terms. Here's a useful list of 28 prisons, enterprises, and people in charge for those who want to dig into this. (1/19)

    We currently have 24 victims documented here (), the majority of them the same as for Urumqi Prison (). The working assumption for now is that inmates held here were transferred to Urumqi Prison in or around April 2017. (7/7)

    Geolocation was easy as the address is specified in a court document (), as well as other procurement documents, though it might be the new one. However, searching the general vicinity and doing a satellite-to-ground image match proves sufficient. (6/7)

    The facility also looked functional when the citizen journalist "Guanguan" visited in 2020 (). Unfortunately, one can't read the sign in the video to know precisely what it was, Guanguan doesn't know either, and we couldn't find anything online. (5/7)

    However, the facility wasn't abandoned. What look like factory buildings were replaced by what look like dorms, the entrance got a big upgrade, and the security features generally remained in place. (4/7)

    Judging by satellite imagery and local articles/docs, this facility only functioned as the No. 5 Prison for about a decade, before moving just north to the new Urumqi Prison in April 2017. The term "No. 5 Prison" essentially disappears from the records after that. (3/7)

    This largely completes our review of the "prison park" in Urumqi's Xinshi District, where there is a concentration of ~10 detention facilities, majority of them prisons. Still have a juvenile correction facility and a Bingtuan detention center, but no victims there for now. (2/7)

    Adding the Xinjiang No. 5 Prison (新疆第五监狱) to our list of documented facilities: This is the successor of the East Gobi Farm (东戈壁农场) and the predecessor of Urumqi Prison (). Possibly no longer in use. (1/7)

    Abdushukur Memetjan was arrested in November 2017, together with his wife and two children. Sent to camp for going on the Hajj in 1986, he was released after 18 months, but would pass away from stomach cancer some time later.
