My badge was hanging from my hip as usual and this particular 'Googler' followed me for at least 20 meters exhorting me to show my badge #google #biasinbadging

As I continued on my way they ran in front of me and attempted to physically stop me. As tried to make my way around them they continued to step in front of me. To be clear, I had not responded to their request for my papers, as my badge is clearly visible

This is weaponized form of bias that is implicitly endorsed by the processes that
#google has in place around badging. The signage on the doors clearly indicate that if you look different, you should be considered a threat.#biasinbadgingpic.twitter.com/Vbfpsl29VQ

When this first happened to me in May of this year, I was very clear with HR that the environment was such that it was almost a certainty that this would happen again. Welcome to being Black in Big Tech

Thank you all for the tweets of support. It has made a difference on what was a hard day. Oddly enough, I will be discussing this and many other stories of Thriving While Black in
#BigTech at#TechInclusion2019#SF on Sept. 12th at 4pm https://sf19.techinclusion.co/#speakers#biasintech#googleNäytä tämä ketju

I'm sorry you had to experience this. Building security is and should be everyone's responsibility to ensure tailgaters don't enter. To this end I hold up my badge to anyone near me when entering a building. Removes ALL doubt.

I disagree. You overlook the fact that he said his badge was visible, that he was stalked by a coworker who suspected him of "not belonging", and that he was physically blocked to enter his office building.

It's why I wore my badge around the neck, as is common in all other high-security environments, save universities. ...I don't even want the conversation to start; makes everyone happier, me being the first

This is not a high security environment. It goes like this. Boss: we want multiple entrances but not pay guards. Ejit: just put up card readers + posters and make'm check each other's badges. Boss: a bit stalinist, but let's save that money! And here's a one off bonus, Ejit.
