As cultural diversity goes up, ideological diversity can often go down. It's something we should at least be more aware of. If you have a group of friends—and everyone's different but everyone's also the same—well, that's not necessarily a good thing

I have A WHOLE BRANCH of my family tree that believes the Earth is flat so hard they raised money for a billboard about it that I had to drive past EVERY DAMN DAY. I saw them once a year for a long time. Now they're far enough down a hole that they passed Trump. So ¯\_(⊙_ʖ⊙)_/¯

Does the last point follow? Diversity of opinion isn’t distributed equally across locations, age groups, work places or social/cultural circles. There are gateways to meet people who think differently (for me that’s often been sport) but lots of pursuits are ghettoised.

I'm not open minded about garbage people. I pride myself on that, actually. I cut all rightwing trash out of my life as a teenager and I highly recommend it.
