My favorite part of maintaining an OSS project is talking to my users over a video chat and hearing their success and failure stories. Sometimes we forget that there are real people on the other side of that GH issue. Plus users love it when maintainers actually care about them.

Normally I announce it in Slack or over a GH Issue.... "hey, I'm curious how you are using X? would you mind hopping on a call with me for 30 minutes, so we can discuss how you are using X and how it can be better for you?"

Yes. This might not work on a project as large as Rails.
