Wish there was some kind of org that could do stuff like this in a sustainable way. Companies pay a tiny bit and everyone gets the benefits.

So the story about making this work everywhere is perhaps a bit more complex than it first appears... Linux is not a single target like windows (mostly) is... several architectures are in regular use... without even mentioning stuff like glibc alternatives... sure it is possible

You don't have to make it work everywhere. x86 and x86_64 covers the majority. libc is dynamically linked, shouldn't be relevant.

Not to mention people that were discouraged from trying Rails because they couldn’t get it installed. I know many beginners (myself included) have quit in frustration from it just not installing
