How would you distinguish between global coordinates ((0,0) at map corner) and local coordinates ((0,0) at entity position?
Typically in gaming that's referred to as object space vs world space (camera space being post-projection). But those are intimately tired to whether you've applied the model, view, or projection matrices (and usually come with one of those three as arguments)

I'm working on a 2d game. I'm not doing any manual matrix application although I do some vector math when converting between coordinate spaces. Is that equivalent to what you were describing?
