On my super out of date mac, Allo renders an unrecognized emoji as U+25A1 WHITE SQUARE, not U+FFFD REPLACEMENT CHARACTER as it should. Anyone know if this is Mac's fault, Chrome's, or Allo's? (/cc @FakeUnicode)pic.twitter.com/DdTMjoFJ7L

Yeah I'm surprised that the ZWJ character is rendering there at all. Interestingly if I copy the text, the ZWJ disappears when I delete the unrecognized character, or replace it with something else
I am also seriously curious what that 1 in a square is though. I should be seeing U+FFFD REPLACEMENT CHARACTER there. Help me @FakeUnicode you're my only hope
