I like Vec and Buf, honestly. I think Opt and Res would drive me insane though, and I'm not sure I can articulate the difference

I'm arguing for longer names, not abbreviations FWIW. Even if you like the `Buf` suffix, I think that's an argument for `String` and `StringBuf` over `str` and `String` ;)

I’m not a Rust folk and didn’t know about it, but now I’m bothered. There are a few in Ruby that bug me too

I think Proc is the only one that really bugs me in Ruby. Are there some that I'm forgetting?

I feel that vector is as bad or worse a name as vec, so the obfuscation makes it sound less like "vector" and is good. "Option" otoh is a great name

i disagree that Vec doesn't need to be abbreviated - the more often a name is used, the more pleasant it is to shorten it. i might prefer Opt over Option once i got used to it, although you could also make the argument that there's greater precedent for shortening Vec

I disagree that 3 characters is ever that significant of a difference. This isn't Cocoa. We aren't talking `[OrderedIndexableArray createWithType: andCapacity: andAllocator:]

I think part of this is that Graydon had a rule to not have long names from what I remember from Steve's history talk. So I wonder what stuff came when. I wonder if we would have Vector if it came later in the game.

6 characters is not a long name by any measurement
