I mean it's a gorgeous title sequence and deserves applause but also you can see they made a special cutout in the compositor, through the outer ring gap, to make the effect less noticeable! It's a subtle piece of work!

IIRC this whole thing is physical models and a motion rig for the camera; they had digital compositing but not CGI. I feel like the Star Wipe is really kind of a neat compromise.

My favorite is how they did the little people you can see walking on the bridge. It's a really really crude hand drawn scribble of people shaped objects that they composited onto the windows.
