The Bitcoin blockchain is over 145GB compressed. It was 37GB two years ago. If it only progresses at this rate (it's likely to accelerate) it will be 307GB by 2020. At what size does this become a problem?

Because if that wasn't required, the network might use less electricity than Denmark which would be unacceptable.
