@wordcamp Hey I was discussing a local CFP with an organizer today. I was told that requiring a phone number was "because it's how wordcamp does it everywhere". This is something that turns away speakers. It's a vector for potential abuse 1/2
I would not give my phone number unless I know the organizers personally. There are plenty more protective than me. Also requiring a http://WordPress.org username is super weird and annoying.
