One of the biggest problem with Rails as a code base is that there are too many "band-aid" fixes, too few people thinking about big picture

I’m far from an apologist, as you know, but that’s the nature of a codebase that’s being actively relied on in production by tons of people.

Ah, yeah, I think that’s the case for most open source stuff. Outside of companies that have made OSS their business, not many get to do it.
