OSS is a means, not an end. And even as a means, it is one factor in a multitude of others and part of a complex trade-off.
But being able to fix that bug you found is really nice as well. Should be a different term for "source code is available"

yeah, I agree that this is cool, I'm not arguing open source is bad, just that it is a tool with lots of +s but also some -s

100% agree. That said, I'll still take OS libs over not for development when given the option
