@michalmuskala Sure, I love the system. But surely something based on an easily measured constant (gravity?) would make more sense

The initial definition was less elegant, though, but probably the best that was possible in 1800s
Not saying metric is bad, just that the meter is no less arbitrary than King George's arm for the avg person.

ok, if you look for a measurement you can do "at home" to determine the unit, than yes, I agree.
