While you might not __always__ need a BIGINT primary key, when you do you'll be very happy you've got it. Otherwise it's not a huge concern.

bigint usually doesn’t even take any more storage space than int at all because of alignment

Alignment doesn't affect disk though. (Not that you want to be hitting disk much)
