Fwiw, I think php gets a bad rap. It's come a long long way since then. Also evolved? My own abilities. My goodness.
I do agree that people focus way too much on the state of 5.2 and earlier. That doesn't make it a reasonable choice in 2016 though

like most things - it depends. It's not suitable for me, I don't think. But for others? It might be.
