It's extremely frustrating when somebody won't take "Sorry, but this isn't a bug" for an answer.
What is or isn't the most desired behavior isn't always straightforward. It's also not always the point, either.

Changes in software have a cost, whether we like it or not. Often times changing a surprising API isn't worth the cost of breaking apps
