80% of the time, when one Rubygem claims to be faster than another, it's because it's featureset/scope is smaller. This can be good or bad.

There is no magic "fast way" to write Ruby. You can only make one library faster than another by cutting scope.
@nateberkopec Also important to see what your bottleneck is. Don't pick a lib for speed if it's in a non hot path
