Rubocop yells at me for defining a method that should be a reader. But its private and Ruby yells at me for private attributes :(

@sgrif I have no issue with preferring protected over private, though. But if so, then should protected just always be preferred?
@josh_cheek I would say that it's more likely that `attr_readers` will ever need to transition to protected than other methods, so no.
