also the point about clippy having a million warnings is just inaccurate: this is a Deny warning in clippy! this will fail your clippy build and will be red in the error list. perhaps it should be uplifted to rustc, but it's not bucketed the same way

I found it. Wow that is a take. I am surprised CStr::as_ptr is still around letting folks get bit by this. Wasn't there talk of deprecating it in favor of a method that returns a reference at some point?

I'd argue CStr / CString should be deprecated entirely and replaced with safe types that are FFI compatible. There shouldn't be a need for any raw pointers at all.
