I don't know why we ever switched from mops or tflops to clock speed as the main unit of comparison. Instructions is so much better as a measurement

I remember a very respected software person, who is usually very thoughtful and accurate with their words, mentioning on stage at a conference that 2.4GHz was 2.4 billion machine instructions per second and I actually said out loud "oh no please don't do that"
