Good question! My attempt to answer: in the culture of conservative Christians, a person's sex (as in biological sex, not intercourse) is construed as socially-relevant public information. Modern progressive culture disagrees. 1/3

From the conservative Christian perspective, the objection is, "We should be able to practice our culture in the context of an organization that employs people." The progressive counterargument is that this oppresses employees who might not have other employment options. 2/3

A counter-counter-argument might be, "The project of protecting people from oppressive employers can be handled in other ways (e.g., a guaranteed minimum income), without barring the culture of Christianity from interacting with the money economy." 3/3
