Is there a term for a think that was meant to help but now makes things worse? For example: the “popcorn” button on microwaves. Every microwave popcorn bag now has to have explicit instructions “do not use the popcorn button”.
The popcorn button is actually great. The issue is how great it is varies by microwave, so the popcorn makers put this instruction so folks don't think the popcorn is bad when they actually have a crappy microwave
