How do folks feel about `prerelease` as a default branch name for open source projects
Folks have been suggesting replacements for master as a primary branch name. For open source projects, `prerelease` seems like an excellent description of that branch

Oh, I think it should be left as it is and people changing from master will be a PITA. I already have one client using "develop" as the main branch name, and it's very very annoying.

"develop" makes sense to me, too. The issue is muscle memory? I honestly don't understand why git chose "master" in the first place. Why not "main" or "trunk" or hell, even "a" (like "foo", but starts a sequence of more than 3)

I'm cool with "prerelease", but I'm also cool with "trunk", which, honestly is what I've always thought "master" should be.

Trunk definitely is a better general purpose name

My suggestion was “latest” but I think it has the same problem as “prerelease” in that it’s oriented around the head of that branch. Trunk or main have less of that issue
