      China and the US are roughly the same difference from NZ. To order a USB/RJ45 adapter (pretty small and light), the postage is $25 from Amazon (US) and $1 from AliExpress (China).

      That's US dollars, not proper ones. Ordering something similar in NZ, the postage is 5-8 nzd, but the component is twice the price of Amazon and four time the price of AliExpress.
